1936 MG NB Magnette Two-Seater

Only 98 examples of the NB Two-Seater were built during its 1935-36 production run, placing it among the rarest body styles in an already uncommon family. Total N-type Magnette production across all variants reached approximately 745 cars.

Introduced in late 1934, the N-type was positioned above MG’s four-cylinder Midgets and represented the marque’s first move away from the conventional ladder-frame chassis, adopting a design that was wider at the rear than the front, with the body mounted to outriggers off the main frame.

The NB, announced in 1935, updated the body with lower lines and vertical slats on the radiator grille, redesigned the doors to open from the front on conventional hinges, improved the seats, and gave the speedometer and tachometer their own separate dials.

Power comes from a 1,271 cc overhead-camshaft inline-six producing 56 hp at 5,500 rpm through twin SU carburetors, nearly a 25 percent improvement over the earlier K-type Magnette unit it was developed from.

The engine’s crossflow cylinder head made it well-suited to supercharging, with forced induction capable of significantly increasing output depending on blower specification.

A four-speed non-synchromesh gearbox sends power to the rear wheels, with a top speed of around 80 mph. Center-lock wire-spoke wheels are fitted as standard.
