This bird builds a floating nest that drifts gently with the water.
Across the lotus-filled wetlands of Asia, the Pheasant-tailed Jacana walks gracefully over floating leaves on impossibly long toes. Hidden among the reeds, its nest is a delicate platform made from aquatic plants, resting directly on the surface of the water.
What makes it extraordinary is how fragile yet effective the nest is — rising and falling with changing water levels while keeping the eggs safely afloat. Even the chicks are adapted to this watery world, able to hide beneath vegetation moments after hatching.
