This chicken is so dark that even its skin, comb, and internal organs appear black.

Originating from Indonesia, the Ayam Cemani is one of the most unusual chicken breeds in the world. Its feathers shimmer with an iridescent green-black sheen, while its legs, beak, and even tongue carry the same deep pigmentation caused by a rare genetic condition called fibromelanosis.

Despite its mysterious appearance, it behaves much like other domestic chickens β€” foraging for seeds, insects, and grains while moving calmly through farmyards and village paths. In many cultures, it has become surrounded by myths and legends because of its striking all-black form.

A bird wrapped in midnight from head to toe, yet one of the most fascinating breeds ever domesticated.
