This bird may look like a colorful roller, but it belongs to an ancient family found nowhere else on Earth.

The Cuckoo-roller is Madagascar’s only member of its unique bird family. With its striking blue, purple, and green plumage, it glides gracefully through forests while hunting insects, small reptiles, and other tiny prey. During the breeding season, males perform spectacular aerial displays, soaring and twisting through the sky to attract a mate.

A living treasure found only on one extraordinary island, reminding us how evolution can create something truly one of a kind.
