1953 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe (by Ghia)
Italian design flair transformed American luxury into something entirely different when Ghia’s Luigi Segre created his dramatic interpretation of the Cadillac Series 62. Only two examples were built on 1953 Series 62 convertible chassis, making this one of the rarest custom Cadillacs ever produced.
The bodywork featured flowing pontoon fenders, headlights set in rounded pods, and long chrome ribs running the full length of each side.
This particular car distinguished itself from its sister vehicle with a unique grille of thin vertical bars finished in gold-anodized aluminum, along with distinctive half bumperettes rather than a full front bumper. The expansive cabin included both a wraparound windshield and rear window, creating an airy feel.
Power came from Cadillac’s proven 331-cubic-inch V8 producing 210 horsepower, paired with the four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The car’s glamorous reputation includes reported connections to Manhattan’s El Morocco nightclub owner John Perona and possibly actress Rita Hayworth, adding to its mystique among collectors today.
