A Journey Fraught with Challenges

When Liv, a black Pit Bull, was found wandering the streets, she was a mere shadow of her true self. Severely underweight, with a stomach stretched from being overbred and ears twisted backward from what appeared to be a botched attempt at cropping, her condition told a harrowing tale.

But Caitlyn, who lived in Charlotte, North Carolina, saw beyond the physical scars. The moment their eyes met, she was drawn to Liv’s soulful, sorrowful gaze, which reflected all she had endured.

Tot: Her Path to a Happier Life

“She wouldn’t go for a walk unless Tater Tot were with us,” Caitlyn shared with GeoBeats Animals.

At the start of this journey, Caitlyn already had a dog at home—another Pit Bull named Tater Tot.

It was an instant connection for Liv and Tot. They bonded deeply, not just because they were the same breed but also because they had both faced similar battles in their lives. Tater Tot was a rescue, too, carrying his own scars.

Although Liv had become a beloved part of their lives, she was still officially a foster. However, the undeniable bond between Liv and Tot became the catalyst for Caitlyn’s decision to make Liv a permanent part of their family.

She Thrived in the Company of Her Loved Ones

Since becoming a permanent family member, Sweet Pea has undergone five surgeries to heal from her past. One of the most noticeable injuries, a deep scar on her face, was finally resolved after her last operation, allowing all the remnants of her former life to fade away.

With each healed wound, she stepped closer to a life filled with joy and warmth.

Despite her painful history, Sweet Pea blossomed into a dog full of affection and joy. She loves resting her paws on Caitlyn’s hand, soaking in head pats, and comforting her loved ones during their difficult moments. Her family is her entire world.

“To this day, she won’t go for a walk unless all three of us are together,” Caitlyn shared for GeoBeats Animals. “It doesn’t matter if something is exciting happening; as long as I’m with her or Tater Tot is with her, she’s happy.”

This loving trio often visits Caitlyn’s mom at her workplace, where a sprawling field provides ample space for the dogs to run and play. Sweet Pea enjoys playing with her brother for a bit before standing protectively beside Caitlyn or her grandmother. Even when off-leash, she never strays far from those she loves.

No matter what she’s been through, this black Pittie found every bit of strength to rise above her past and cherish her new life. Her driving force was her family, and without them, her life would have lost its meaning.
