Countless little pups roam the streets, hoping for a brighter future. They endure the dangers and loneliness

They were longing for a family that would cherish them and fill their lives with love.

Gloria, a sweet little puppy suffering from mange, had the same hope — that someone kind would come along and give her the love and care she desperately needed.

After being rescued by Burlington Animal Services, Gloria, estimated to be around nine to ten weeks old, finally had a chance at happiness.

The wonderful people at Hope Animal Rescue, a non-profit in North Carolina, stepped in to help. And this was where Gloria’s life began to change.

Gloria Meets Her Loving Foster Mom

Emily Dunn, a devoted foster mom, received a call from the rescue. They asked her if she would take in a small pup suffering from mange.

As soon as Dunn laid eyes on Gloria’s picture, her heart melted at the sight of those adorable eyes. She knew she had to give her a home and help her heal.

The very next day, Dunn met Gloria for the first time. The sight of the little dog’s condition was heartbreaking.

Gloria’s body was covered in mange, her skin wrinkled and crusty, and there was barely any fur left.

But despite her rough state, Gloria’s spirit remained unbroken. As soon as she saw Dunn, she wagged her tail, sensing the kindness in the woman who had come to help her.

Gently, Dunn cradled Gloria’s face in her hands, and in that moment, the bond between them was born.

When Dunn brought Gloria back to her home in Raleigh, she knew the first step was to make her comfortable. She prepared a medicated bath to soothe Gloria’s damaged skin.

As the water washed over her, the little dog relaxed, her eyes shining with gratitude and love as she gazed up at her foster mom.

Dunn couldn’t help but fall in love with her. Gloria simply wanted to be held, to feel safe, and to experience the warmth of love she had been missing.

A Surprising Discovery

After a visit to the vet, Dunn received unexpected news.

Though Gloria looked like a puppy, the vet revealed that she was, in fact, an adult dog.

The vet and Dunn suspected that Gloria had come from poor backyard breeding conditions.

Soon, Gloria’s skin began to recover.

“We are so excited to see her hair start to grow and for her to be less crusty. Already, in just a few short days, we can see her markings better and she’s shedding a lot less. Her spirit never changed though, she is still so spunky and happy,” Dunn shared in an interview with Newsweek.

Gloria’s days are now filled with love and comfort in her foster home. She adores cuddling with Dunn, wagging her tail with happiness whenever someone meets her gaze.

“She just wags her tail and wants to be loved as soon as you make eye contact with her… She will cuddle up in your lap and is happy to hang out,” Dunn said.

Though she’s still in recovery, adoption applications are already pouring in, all from people eager to give this brave girl the forever home she deserves.

Once Gloria’s healing journey is complete, she’ll be ready to start her next chapter — with a family that will love her as much as she loves them.
